We manage a D2C brand selling across our site, Amazon, and Faire. When Perplexity answers product queries, it attributes to the marketplace listing instead of our DTC site—even though our canonical tags point to our domain and we have fresher schema.org/Product markup with better brand metadata. Our site has higher category authority. Should we be restructuring our entity model (like Organization > owns > Product relationships) to signal DTC authority, or is Perplexity deliberately favoring 'neutral' marketplace URLs?

Perplexity is deliberately favoring marketplace URLs for perceived neutrality—canonical tags don't carry weight in answer engines the way they do in traditional SEO. Test adding schema.org/manufacturer + schema.org/brand relationships on your DTC site markup, plus explicit schema.org/isPartOf linking your product pages to your Organization entity. If that doesn't work within 2 weeks, accept that you need to compete for citations on marketplace listings themselves (reviews, seller ratings) rather than trying to override the marketplace URL.
