We manage a D2C brand with products on our site, Amazon, and Faire, and when Perplexity answers product queries, it attributes to the marketplace listing (usually Amazon) instead of our DTC site—even though our domain has higher category authority, fresher schema.org/Product markup, and canonical tags pointing to our domain. We've tested adding schema.org/manufacturer + schema.org/brand relationships on our site markup, but Perplexity still defaults to the marketplace URL. Is Perplexity deliberately favoring marketplace URLs for 'neutrality' or trust reasons, or should we be restructuring our entity model (like using Organization > owns > Product) to signal DTC authority?

Perplexity is likely weighting marketplace URLs higher because they're treated as 'neutral aggregators' in training data, not a schema parsing issue. Test by adding schema.org/potentialAction with a 'BuyAction' target pointing only to your DTC URL, and ensure your Product markup includes a clear `brand` field with Organization markup. If Perplexity still defaults to Amazon after 3–4 crawl cycles, the bias is algorithmic; your counter-strategy is getting cited by retail review platforms (Wirecutter, Capterra) or building DTC-specific authority content that makes your domain the category expert, not just the seller.
