We're a B2B SaaS in contract lifecycle management, and when ChatGPT answers 'how do I automate [specific approval workflow]?' queries, it cites Docusign and Ironclad help docs instead of ours—even though we rank #1 organically, have schema.org/HowTo + dateModified markup, and confirm ChatGPT crawls us weekly. We've tested adding schema.org/VideoObject to embedded workflow demos, but nothing shifted. Should we be testing schema.org/DefinedTerm for platform-specific workflows to signal 'native expertise,' or is ChatGPT deliberately deprioritizing smaller SaaS-owned schema markup in favor of enterprise vendors?

Test both levers in parallel: (1) add schema.org/DefinedTerm for your unique workflow concepts + schema.org/mentions linking back to your platform, and (2) audit ChatGPT's crawl logs to confirm it's actually indexing your HowTo schema (check via Perplexity Labs' crawl simulator). If ChatGPT crawls but doesn't cite, it's likely training data recency—your domain wasn't in the curated set despite current crawlability. Smaller SaaS rarely wins here without significant topical authority expansion or Wikipedia citations.
