We're a fintech startup and our product category is brand new (emerged 18 months ago). When Gemini answers 'what is [our category]?' queries, it pulls from older Wikipedia definitions and legacy financial news instead of our category-defining content. We rank #1 organically for those queries, but we're invisible in AI answers. Is this a training data cutoff problem, or should we be building citations on Wikipedia/Britannica to signal category authority to LLMs?

Asked by Carlos V.
Likely both. Most LLM training data has a hard cutoff (Claude: early 2024, Gemini: varies by model), so newer categories miss the window entirely. Schema markup alone won't fix this—you need mentions on high-authority sources that were indexed *before* the cutoff. Wikipedia edits are slow; faster play is getting cited in established financial publications or analyst reports that LLMs trust.
