We're a niche B2B SaaS and noticed our brand only appears in ChatGPT answers when users ask hyper-specific queries about our exact use case, but we're completely absent from broader category-level answers ('what is [our category]?'). Competitors with lower organic traffic get cited in those broader answers. We suspect training data recency, but we don't know if we should invest in category-defining content, build citations on Wikipedia/higher-authority domains, or if this is just a model cutoff we can't solve. What's the diagnostic process?

Check your domain's mention frequency on Wikipedia, major industry publications, and analyst reports—if competitors appear there and you don't, that's your gap. ChatGPT's training data skews toward 'canonical' sources (Wikipedia, major publications, analyst firms), not organic rankings. Build category-level content on Wikipedia or partner with industry analysts for coverage; your organic rankings won't move the needle for LLM training data. Hyper-specific visibility means you're already indexed—you're just not in the 'foundational knowledge' layer.
