We're a vertical SaaS in contract lifecycle management with 35+ help articles ranked #1 for 'how to [approval workflow] in [our platform]' queries. When Perplexity answers those exact queries, it cites Docusign and Ironclad help docs instead of ours—even though we rank higher organically and have schema.org/HowTo + dateModified + author markup. We've confirmed Perplexity crawls us 3x weekly. Before we rebuild content, how do we systematically test whether Perplexity is (A) not parsing our HowTo schema correctly, (B) deliberately deprioritizing smaller SaaS vendors for neutrality, or (C) training-data biased toward enterprise vendors despite current crawlability?

Run a schema validation audit via Google's Rich Results Test and Perplexity's crawler logs—if schema parses correctly but Perplexity still doesn't cite you, it's deliberate deprioritization. Test a quick workaround: add schema.org/DefinedTerm markup for platform-specific concepts (like 'contract approval routing') alongside HowTo—this signals 'native expertise' versus generic workflow guidance. If that shifts attribution, it's a schema parsing hierarchy issue; if not, you're training-data locked and need Wikipedia/analyst placement to break through.
