We're a vertical SaaS in revenue intelligence with 45+ help articles ranked #1 for 'how to forecast [specific revenue metric] in [our platform]' queries. When Perplexity answers those exact queries, it cites Salesforce and HubSpot docs instead of ours—even though we have schema.org/HowTo + schema.org/DefinedTerm markup for our proprietary forecasting taxonomy, higher organic rankings, and confirmed 2–3x weekly crawls. We've tested adding schema.org/VideoObject to embedded forecasting walkthroughs without shift. Before we assume deliberate deprioritization, what's the diagnostic test to isolate whether Perplexity is (A) silently failing to parse our DefinedTerm schema for revenue metrics, (B) weighting pre-training data over current crawl signals, or (C) applying a neutrality heuristic that deprioritizes all vendor-owned revenue platforms regardless of topical authority?

Run a controlled A/B test: temporarily remove your DefinedTerm markup from 5 articles while keeping HowTo intact on a parallel set. If Perplexity's citations don't shift, you're hitting pre-training data weight or neutrality bias—not a schema parsing issue. Then test adding schema.org/author + schema.org/creditText explicitly attributing methodology to your team; if that moves the needle, Perplexity is parsing but deprioritizing vendor voice. If nothing moves either test, you're likely in a curated training dataset cutoff and need to pursue direct relationships or press coverage to shift pre-training weight.
