We create teacher professional development videos and host podcast interviews with ed-tech researchers. Claude cites them in answers about classroom instruction, but Google's AI Overviews doesn't. What are we missing?

Claude and Google's systems have different indexing and citation preferences. Claude appears more willing to surface video and podcast content when it's well-structured with metadata, while Google's Overviews lean toward written text. You're likely already indexed in Claude's training or crawl, which is why you're seeing citations there.
Start by adding schema.org/VideoObject markup to every video landing page—include description, duration, uploadDate, and thumbnailUrl. For podcasts, use schema.org/PodcastEpisode with episodeNumber, datePublished, and transcript or a detailed show notes section. Google's crawlers need this structured context to confidently surface video and audio as sources.
Next, write 200–300 word transcripts or summaries below each video and podcast embed. Google's systems appear to weight written supplementary content alongside the media file itself when deciding whether to cite it. Make sure these summaries answer the specific questions your audience asks—if your videos cover "scaffolding strategies for ESL students," that phrase should appear in the summary.
Check your progress in two weeks by searching Google's AI Overviews and Claude for 3–5 questions your content directly answers. Note which results cite you and which don't. If Google still skips your video content while citing text competitors, your schema or summary depth may need work. If Claude starts citing less often, you may have lost crawl access—verify your robots.txt and crawl stats.
