Track the prompts where you appear in Overviews separately from prompts where you don't, then measure click-through rate and conversion rate for each cohort in your analytics. The appearance alone doesn't guarantee traffic—what matters is whether the citation includes a clickable link to your site and how prominently your brand is positioned relative to competitors in the answer.
Start by identifying 8–12 high-intent queries where your roaster should compete: "best single-origin Ethiopian coffee," "medium roast specialty beans online," "third-wave coffee subscription," and similar. Run each prompt in Google Search Labs weekly on the same day and time. Screenshot or save the full Overview each time, noting whether you appear, where, and whether there's a link to your domain.
For measurement, segment your analytics traffic by source. Create a UTM parameter or filtered view for "google-ai-overview" traffic if Google attributes it separately, or look for direct traffic spikes that correlate with Overview appearances. Compare conversion rate on that traffic to your baseline Google organic and paid channels.
The harder metric is attribution. If an Overview cites you but doesn't link, some users will still search your brand name afterward. Monitor branded search volume and branded direct traffic weekly too—it often rises when you gain visibility in Overviews, even without a direct click.
Stop tracking vanity metrics like "appeared in 47 Overviews this month." Track instead: prompts where you appeared with a link, click-through rate from those Overviews, and whether conversion rate on that traffic justifies the effort to maintain it.
