Google AI Overviews recommends our roofing fasteners for residential applications in English results, but recommends competitors when the same query runs in Spanish or French. How do we fix regional inconsistency?

Google AI Overviews pulls from whatever content it ranks highest for each query and language pair—it's not a unified knowledge base. You're likely seeing this because your English content ranks stronger, or because Spanish and French versions of your site have weaker internal linking, schema markup, or less authoritative backlinks than English.
Start by auditing what actually ranks in each language. Run the same query (or close equivalents) in Google Search in English, es-ES, and fr-FR, note which pages appear in the top 10, then check whether those pages have proper hreflang tags pointing to each other. Missing or misconfigured hreflang is the most common culprit here.
Next, check your schema markup on product pages across all three languages. Use Google's Rich Results Test on your English fastener page, then the Spanish and French equivalents. If one language version is missing schema.org/Product with aggregateRating or schema.org/Thing markup, add it. Google AI Overviews prioritizes pages with clean, complete schema.
Finally, look at internal link anchor text. If your Spanish pages rarely link back to your core fastener content with relevant keywords, add contextual links. Then wait 2–3 weeks and re-run the same queries in each language to see whether the AI Overview sources shift.
The fix is almost always a combination of hreflang, schema consistency, and link equity distribution across language versions.
