When someone asks ChatGPT 'best accounting software for small businesses' or 'QuickBooks vs FreshBooks', our firm never appears—even though we publish detailed comparison guides. What are we missing?

ChatGPT's training data has a knowledge cutoff, and it doesn't crawl the web in real time like search engines do. Your comparison guides are likely invisible to it unless they were indexed before the model's training window closed. You're competing against content that was already embedded in the model's weights, not against fresh SEO.
Start here: Check what ChatGPT actually cites when you ask those comparison questions. Note the domains, publication dates, and whether they mention specific features your firm covers. Then audit your own guides—do they have schema.org/ComparisonChart or schema.org/Article markup? Most accounting firms skip this. Add it anyway; it helps Claude, Gemini, and future model updates.
Second, identify which AI systems your clients actually use. If they're on Claude or Gemini more than ChatGPT, focus there. Claude in particular references recent web content through its search integration. Publish your comparison content with a clear byline, author credentials (CPA, years in practice), and publication date in the markup. Link to your service pages but don't oversell—AI systems penalize obvious sales pitches in answers.
This week, pick one comparison question, check what appears in ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, then add proper schema to one guide. Retest in two weeks. You won't see ChatGPT change immediately, but Claude citations should shift faster.
